Sister Ruth (Lyle) Evermann, BVM, 86, of Mount Carmel Bluffs, Dubuque, Iowa, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, in Pullman, Wash.
Visitation will be from 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, in the Mary Frances Clarke Chapel at Mount Carmel Bluffs. Sharing of Memories will be at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Sister Ruth ministered as an art therapist and a bilingual special education teacher at the José de Diego Community Academy in Chicago. She was an elementary teacher at Holy Family, Mason City, Iowa; All Saints, Tucson, Ariz.; Annunciation, Chicago; Governmental Remedial Reading Program, Cicero, Ill.; and special education teacher at Lafayette, Oak Park, Ill. She also taught at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia.
She was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Los Angeles to George and Marion (Allmett) Evermann. She entered the BVM congregation Aug. 2, 1957, from St Patrick Parish, North Hollywood, Calif. She professed first vows on Feb. 3, 1960, and final vows on July 16, 1965.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Irene Barnes, and a brother George “Steve” (Anna) Evermann. She is survived by a brother Dr. James (Maureen) Evermann, Pullman, Wash.; nieces; nephews; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 69 years.
